I’m a detailer; this is what I do for a living. But I still find myself watching these videos, mainly because I love the positive attitude and good vibes you have in your videos. Not to mention, your processes oriented towards regular people who are just looking to clean their car up quickly themselves is also super helpful for when I have customers consult me about DIY cleaning small things at a time, I always find myself recommending things/products/methods I learn from your videos, or I just direct them towards your channel. You do good work and manage to make it useful and a learning experience for even professionals; I feel like you don’t get enough appreciation for managing to successfully do that.

Thank you Chris for this video. Very helpful, especially how to feather out the wet stain to ensure it is not seen when dry. that is a major issue. I find that with windows and laminate etc. - if it is allowed to dry on its own, it leaves a mark, but if you buff it until it is dry - things dry very clean and no water marks.

Chris, Would you recommend the carpet cleaning portion of this video for vehicles that have have had their sunroof drains clogged and thereby leaking into the car, creating a horrific odor and potentially mold in the floor(ing)? Or is there another process we should do to clean this? Either way, I'm certain such a cleaning would run $100's at a detail shop...really trying to avoid having to pay that steep price.
Noah Ouellet
Noah Ouellet Жыл бұрын
Coming from a certified carpet cleaning technician just as an 3xtra tip it is a smart idea to do a dry extraction after the wet extraction to make sure no more dirt wicks up to the surface. Also for cleaning chemicals if you can try to find something high in alkalinity. It will do a good job of breaking down dirt and odors. Also for dye stains and pet urine stains use hydrogen peroxide with a pre treatment in the spotting step and post treatment in the dry vac step

You did an awesome job I watched all the way through and I’m motivated to do this on my older vehicle which I’m sure as a lot of build up. I was curious though what if you wanted to get at the base underneath and remove the carpet to get all the trapped debris? Is it easy to put back in? By the way that was satisfying to see fantastic results. You’re gifted not too many people have the time or patience and here you are making it look beautiful. 😊

Watching a ChrisFix video isn't just a tutorial on a subject. It's an unparalleled class on how to clearly communicate. And a big part of that is not cutting corners and keeping your personal standards high for how you communicate. Chris may not put out a ton of videos per year, and I'm sure he has huge, growing backlog of ideas, but when he does, it's no less than the definitive guide on the topic. All that extra time he spends making his videos as close to perfect as possible collectively saves orders of magnitude more hours for the people watching them. I can't say enough good things about Chris.

Thank you for the excellent tips!! While watching your video I'm having so many "why didn't I think of it" moments. Purchased a used car not too long ago which is in need of extensive cleaning. Previous owners most likely used the vehicle for camping with their very furry pet and goodness!! I've been vacuuming so many times and each time my vacuum canister keeps filling up with white pet hair,dust/dirt and crumbs. What surprised me is the amount of so much hair trapped under the car seats and nooks and crannies and the most annoying is hairs stuck to the greased up moving parts under the car seats. While i don't consider myself a clean freak, I'm honestly appalled by the amount of grime that keeps coming out 😬. I grew up accustomed to weekly car cleaning and believed everyone did the same... apparently that is not the case 😂

Great video and tips, I learned a lot, thank you! The only suggesstion I have is about "protecting" the carpts: while being a good idea in theory, the problem with that approach is where do all of this spilled water will roll to now? It will likely roll off the carpets, get stuck underneeth, and increase the chance of mold. So I personally prefer using carpets as water asborbant, not repellant.

Carpet cleaning should have been the last step! Clean from top to bottom, so all the stuff that comes off the roof, dash, center console, etc. Drops to the carpet... which then gets cleaned! No different from dusting your room/house (though I use a swiffer duster!), before vacuuming the carpets! Or cleaning the counters and stove of the kitchen before sweeping (and swiffer wet jet'ing) the floor!

I've owned a carpet and upholstery cleaning and restoration company for 34 years. Couple tips for you to utilize with your extractor: Use tide powder, mixed at two tbs per gallon of warm water and utilize this as your prespray in a spray bottle, like you did the foamy cleaner. Its tons cheaper and works on all fibers better than most proprietary chemicals. Add 2 tbs of white vinegar to a clean water tank the size you're using if you have any browning or yellowing you're trying to remove, or just in general. This will reduce the ph of the clean water side and very much help remove presprays and soiling. Finally, suck into the dirty water side a small cap of liquid fabric softener and that will kill foam as it enters the machine. Fabric softener mixed with water, at 4-1 softener to water, misted onto carpeting will absolutely kill any static shock issues too.
Ber

What about the protectant he sprayed to waterproof it- will spraying the protectant disturb the static reducing effect from the fabric softener or will the fabric softener make the protectant useless?

Thank Man you’re a pro! The tide thing actually makes sense because they’re motivated to sell a household product that removes stains at a low price due to economies of scale. Every house buys detergent on a weekly basis but not every house buys car upholstery cleaner except for once every 2 years. That’s why Car cleaning products are overpriced because they’re marketed to a smaller market segment. Great tips. By the way, how would you compare using hydrogen peroxide to vinegar in removing stains from your experience?

Hey ChrisFix, I just detailed my dad's 2000 Nissan Frontier's interior and man did it really bring out the colors. Unfortunately there was some spots I don't think I could clean without some steam but my dad was super happy about it and I referenced you and he was like thank goodness you know quality when you see it

Hi Chris! At 12:28 when you said to use a microfibre towel OR to use the extractor vacuum to suck up the cleaner and dirt; do you mean to say that using the microfibre towel and vacuum after brushing in the cleaner is not necessary if you have the extractor vacuum? And if so does this still produce the same great quality result as including the towel-vacuum-towel step prior to using the extractor vacuum?

Kenny, you are not alone. My phone screen is gross, but not nearly as bad as the crumbs that fell under the keys on my keyboard.

I went to Walmart spent $100 on supplies andI finally started on my car. I'm about 5 hours into it over the course of two days, but repeated some of the same areas the second day. Walmart only had paint brushes, but I had those little flat babies working like I was a painter. 😀 Thanks Chris.

This video is amazing! I love Chris fix! One thing to add is using purified or distilled water to clean will reduce or eliminate any water staining.

Question for anyone who has done car detailing, I've tried using the scrubber on my headliner and it seems to just make everything worse, or it leaves behind water marks. What should I do?

Chris, is there a reason you don’t use the drill brush on the carpet itself and only the floor mats?

I'm too lazy to do any of this myself, but your videos are oddly satisfying to watch. Especially cause I imagine you're actually cleaning my car...and then I wake up to the sad truth of my dirty old car. Great editing skills 👌

Thanks a lot! I'm glad you find the videos satisfying and you like the editing! And I would try focusing on one little spot on the car to clean/maintain, eventually you'll be working on the whole car :p

Be careful with pressure washer. If you apply too much force, you can tear off the fibers from the base.

Bc of the really good deal, I bought a van recently, & it's almost this dirty. (I didn't realize it until we took the seats out & could really see the floor). The family used it to drive from Utah to California & back many times & it has sticky disgusting yuck everywhere! Your vids have been gold! Thanks Chris!
