I just wish the regular Pixel 7 had the telephoto camera too. I tend to take a lot of distance shots with the phone with my hobby and it's unfortunately a dealbreaker for me to not have the telephoto. I'm sick of curved screens and glass backs but those versions of phones are always the only ones that have the camera's that I want lol.

@DevinWxChase yes, most of us are not going to carry around a real camera and tripod with us. We just want to snap a quick shot with our phones and be on our way.

@Bob Bonser The best camera is always the one you quickly have ready to grab the shot. I used to think about this the same way, however with a backpack full of stuff for the small kids I often did not find room anymore for even a small mirrorless like a Fuji X100 series. Think more often than not, one hand is for the smaller toddler so two handed photography became also impossible more often than not. It's in these situations you start to appreciate smartphone camera systems and good software to help you grab pictures. Any picture > no picture at all and honestly these days, smartphone pictures are getting really great - even if they do not always accurately represent what you'd choose to capture with a nice camera. If you go further down the rabbit hole, I can also tell you that for instance older manual focus lenses e.g. Konica Hexanon series or older Zeiss stuff are getting you much nicer colors and representations of everything when mounted on Sony or Fuji mirrorless bodies. Really, the modern designs with countless corrections added either by lens design or by the camera pre-processing as a result for electronically communicating with the modern lens look much more unnatural then when using an adapter with a vintage lens the camera has no clue about :) Back when X-Pro1 was still fresh, I had the "trio" of XF fixed primes (18 f/2, 35 f/1.3, 60 f/2.4 but I still used the adapters with manual focus lenses more than 50% of the time because of the more natural results. These things take time, of which most of us have less and less.

I swapped my 7 Pro out for the regular 7. I just couldn't get used to the giant size and the curved edges. I can lose a telephoto camera I'm never gonna use. Currently LOVING the Pixel 7.

@Ben E oh boy, where do I start? It’s actually just the pixel watch that’s super buggy. For example, if my phone is on silent, and I reply to a message using the shortcut on the notification drop down, it’ll vibrate when receiving the message, and when I respond to the message. SUPER annoying. I turned off all vibrations until they get that fixed. Of course it the watch isn’t connected it works great. Most of my bug issues come from the watch.

My upgrade from last year's Pixel 6 to this year's 7 pro has been huge. The little UI bugs that I would run into daily on the 6 were the most annoying thing, and this year's showing really feels like it was ready for release. I work in phone repair and need daily photos of small parts, so the addition of the macro feature on the 7 pro is HUGE for me. Congration Google, you done it.

I just got my Pixel 7 today. So far it seems more refined than the 6. First thing I immediately noticed was the aluminum side rails and the aluminum camera bar makes the 7 feel way more premium. And it feels more thin too. So far no software bugs and thankfully no overheating. On my 6 quite a few times I felt like holding it that it was gonna melt my fingerprints off lol 🤣. In my case I'd rather get the 7 and save $300.

@Jeremy's Closet Yes Samsung makes Smart Tags which are just Airtags for Samsung phones. They only work on Samsung phones though, so the only other option for non-Samsung androids are the Tile tags which are known to be awful. Google just needs to make their own that are compatible across all Androids

I might trade in my P6 for a 7 but there's two problems with that. 1: The trade in value here in Canada is like half that of what it is in the US, for no reason, and 2: I've had no issues with my P6 lol. I don't know how on earth you guys have had such a bad experience with yours, but I've had mine since launch day and it has been nearly flawless. I've had a handful of issues, all of which have been fixed pretty quickly.

@Martin Leblanc It's also well documented that not all of us suffered from that affliction....so please don't think that when we say we aren't having those issues that it's false. It isn't. I'm sorry you're having those issues though, it really sucks that Googles quality control was so off on the 6's.

Modem and battery issues are well documented. Mine suffer those also. My battery went from 77% to zero overnight, doing nothing on the bedside table while I was sleeping. And connectivity issues necessitating a reboot are a daily occurence. Can't wait to receive the 7 to get rid of those issues.

I went for the Pro. I've had it less than a week and I've already used both the 30x zoom and macro modes. I don't know how often I'll use them, but having them is a great safety net, especially as someone who's nearsighted. I'm getting used to the size of it, and frankly I'm not sure I'll go back to a smaller phone after the 7 Pro. The only thing I'll say I miss about my old 4a is the ability to swipe on the rear fingerprint sensor to show my notification shade. Other than that, I'm very happy with my purchase. I don't mind the curved screen, and I always put a case on my phones, so the glossy finish isn't an issue either.

I feel somewhat alone in the fact that I like these more iterative phones this year. It's part of why I've decided to jump into the Fold 4, and very seriously considered the Pixel. I loved the ideas introduced in last years' versions, but I felt like they were unfinished, so seeing those ideas further refined for this year gives me some (probably naïve) confidence. Every year doesn't have to be a huge overhaul. Sometimes, "the same but better," is all I really need.

Going from the 6 Pro to the 7 Pro, the subtle tweaks makes for a perceivable difference in handling. Not an entire new device, but that difference, along with Google's $150 discount for the Pixel 7 Pro, and the trade-in value of my 6 Pro of $550, makes the upgrade worthwhile for me.

The choice between the 7 for the size and the 7 Pro for the camera oddly mimics my own conundrum last year with the iPhone 13. I greatly preferred the 13 mini’s form factor and the matte aluminum over the stainless steel, but I really needed the 13 Pro’s extra camera abilities. I’m really finding myself interested in switching to the Pixel 7 (I’ve used a few of the A series Pixels before my current iPhones) and I’m finding once again I’m trying to decide between my preferred size (and cost) in the 7 vs the larger, more camera capable 7 Pro.

i was very much considering going from a 6 to the 7 pro, but honestly the 6 is just the perfect phone for me. i bought it when it was on sale in july for 449 here in the uk, i worked in a phone shop at the time so i got a bit of discount and i believe the price i paid for the 6 doesn't justify moving to the 7 pro

I love my pixel 7. Upgraded from the 2XL and it is a huge difference for the better. Especially the battery life. On my 2XL I would have to charge it 5 hours into my shift when it hit 20% but with the 7 I don't have to and still have between 30-50% left at the end of my shift.

good god was the P2 bad for me. Battery didn't live past 15 months for me. It was too small and died early for it. P6 is the next one I got but not even a year later and I'm nickle-and-dimed annoyed by it to the point I basically jumped at the 7. Even if the only difference is the processor and AI stuffs vs the 6, I'll happily take it.

I think how you unlock a phone adds to the experience of using it quite a bit. Saw the Pixel's unlocking and compared to that, my S10 feels instantaneous. Just makes the phone feel way more fluidic even if the Pixel is the faster phone. I must add that I am not a power user so performance does not make that big a difference to my experience anyway.

I have the pro and was reluctant to get it because I wanted an s23 Ultra but I caught a loyalty deal through my provider for the Pix Pro the exact day my old phone stopped charging properly so I picked it up. Must say I am pleasantly surprised at how much I like this phone and am glad I'm not in a situation where it's just my "for now" phone while I dream about an Ultra. Will be sticking with it for sure, it feels more like a grownup phone with a bunch of features I use and not all the overlay of Samsung apps I don't use. The only thing on my con list so far is not being able to directly screen share to my TVs without a Chromecast.

I've had the Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 5X, Pixel 2, Pixel 5, Pixel 6 and now the Pixel 7. I love the 7, it's just a touch smaller and lighter than the 6 which was my biggest selling point. Also the metal camera bar. I dropped my 6 face down on gravel and broke the camera bar glass and haven't been taking good pictures since.

Update. I've had the phone for a month. The camera is amazing, and even the video. Translates well to desktop editing as well. Everything else though, my 4 year old oneplus 7t is better or as good as. The pixel is SUPER finicky with USB c to USB a cables. Chargers that were working with other phones simply don't supply charge. The 30w fast charge isn't really that fast. They should've bundled a charger because you're going to drop at least 28$ to get a USB c charger that has a higher rating. The battery is quite pathetic until you turn off 5G which seems to defeat the point. Snappiness and ram performance were not better than my OnePlus. Bugs are still a thing with this phone in 2022 and the fingerprint scanner is one of the worst I've seen in a modern smartphone, I have to put in the code for 'extra security's about half the time. Face unlock will destroy your battery

I wonder if the top of the line phones will ever go back to totally flat screens. Having used a Oneplus 7 Pro for the past 3 years, I wouldn't say a curved screen is a dealbreaker- it didn't bother me that much initially and still doesn't. But every time I touch a phone with a flat screen I have to admit it does feel better. I guess enough people think it looks cool that manufacturers keep doing it.

My P7P is getting here today. I agree with you. I like the matte aluminum camera bar, and wish they had that on the P7P. The only reason I went with the Pro is the 5x optical zoom. And $300 doesn't make sense for that, but I like to take photos.

I had exactly the opposite reaction. I purchased the S22 Ultra and the Pixel 7 Pro at the same time. And Pixel absolutely blew away the S22U in every metric outside the Battery life, the S22U had GREAT Battery, but everything else just felt really bad. The UI, the Camera, the screen response. the 7 Pro was just much nicer and felt more refined than the 22U IMO. And the Zoom camera is really good for me. The pictures of the moon and stars I can take are remarkable that I've never seen from a phone camera, including that "best camera ever in a smart phone with 100x zoom" the S22U has.

I pulled the trigger on the Pro cuz i was able to get it at 599. Its essentially Pixel 7 price if bought from the google store. The speakers are good (arent garb like the 6a/6 maybe 7 too), the screen's great, + the cam is extra to me. Its got double the RAM compared to my last device! Tho most useful feats, lie in the software-side.

My biggest complaint is that the 6 doesn't have the extra camera. There's a reason the smaller iPhone pro models are one of the best sellers. iPhone pro and pro Max both have the same features apart from the screen and battery size. There might be a small difference in their cameras but so minor that the majority of people aren't going to care. And some of the telephoto shots from the 7 Pro haven't been that great. As big of an android fan as I am, I still think that the iPhone is still top dog when it comes to the cameras. It's the most consistent. Google is constantly changing things while Apple sticks with what works and just slowly improves it year after year. There are certain instances where the Pixel will out perform the iPhone in still photos but iPhones are just consistently better.

I definitely swapped my Pixel 6 Pro for the Pixel 7 Pro at launch. My 6 Pro was great and I had very few issues, however, the issue I did have was impactful. The modem in the 6 Pro definitely had issues. Connecting to the WiFi at my gym was totally hit and miss; one day I could connect the next day I could not. 5G and LTE connectivity was plagued with issues of dropped calls, no data connection with the dreaded 5G exclamation mark icon (!) Since getting my Pixel 7 Pro, I have absolutely NO connectivity issues whatsoever! In fact, signal strength is better in my P7Pro than on my iPhone 13 Pro standing in the same spot. I'm LOVING the P7Pro!

I just got the pixel 7 pro and it is awesome. I left IOS for it and I do not regret it at all. Something that you guys should really check out and I hope you do. Try using your AirPods Pro or Max with it. Especially the Max. The noise cancellation is way better than it is using iPhone. Also, it sounds better. Higher fidelity. You do lose transparency mode. This is how I always wanted my AirPods to sound.

I have the 6 and can honestly say its the best phone I’ve ever had. I know that there are some issues but they are so minor in my mind that I can barely think of any. The biggest is that google pay issue he described with being logged in too long and having to rescan. Been a pixel fan since I had the 3a. 3a to 4a to 6. Before that I had Motorola phones and the difference is MILES from those. Ive never had any fingerprint scanning issues on the 6, though I had many on the 3a and 4a because I have sweaty hands and the scanner wouldn’t ever get wiped off in my pocket like the screen does on the 6. If anyone could point out specific bugs that they come up with on the 6 I’d love to try and sus them out but I’m completely satisfied until the 8 or 8 pro come out.

I got the 7 and I think I’m sending it back and keeping my Note9. They gave me a good deal on trade in, but I’m not really liking it, so it doesn’t feel worth it. A big issue I have is that I’m an athlete and use my phone at the training facility a lot. In fact, it’s where I use Android exclusively. Anywhere else, I prefer iOS. Android let’s me get the media off the phone easier - so I keep one around just for that. Issues for me: 1. Button placement is too low. Not very usable with my tripod (tips over - damage risk). 2. Google’s Media Playback apps are some of the worst I’ve used. KZhome Music is atrocious and the Google Photos video player simply isn’t useful. It doesn’t even have adjustable playback speed. Can’t cast offline (locally stored) music to Nest Audio from KZhome Music. Honestly, even within the Google ecosystem this phone feels worse and far less convenient to use than my Note 9. I am SEVERELY disappointed. Some of the limitations are shocking. 3. Weird that this phone’s file system doesn’t support long file paths like the iPhone. I had to rename a ton of folders to be able to drag and drop my music onto the phone’s internal storage. I could drag the entire music folder to my Note 9 - internal or SD card - and this “just works.” 4. Fingerprint scanner is literally worthless if you have a glass screen protector. It simply doesn’t work 75% of the time. Phone doesn’t automatically unlock when entering the PIN. Have to enter than click a button. Absolutely an issue if you use Tap to Pay. It’s just slow to use, and error-prone. 5. I dislike how they do slow motion recording. Samsung does it like Apple, which I prefer. This alone is pretty much a showstopper for me. I actually think Samsung may be the only great option in the Android ecosystem for athletes (they were a Olympic sponsors, so they probably got lots of feedback from those market segments - Google probably never thinks of them). I do think UW is better than telephoto as a secondary lens, at least for the facilities where I use the phone. It’s just a pity that everything after capturing the video is… a way worse user experience. The issue for me is there isn’t really much on the Play Store that can make up for where the Pixel falls short in hardware. It’s actually kind of shocking how bad the ecosystem makes up for this. I don’t really think these are areas where users should have to depend on third parties, either. Some of these features are fairly basic, and the Play Astor is still a bit too chock full of adware that I don’t generally trust. I’d rather sit longer on the Note9. Aside from App installations it doesn’t even feel much slower than the Pixel 7.

Going from a 5 to a 7 Pro due to the free watch deal (was completely blind sighted by such good value I barely did any research), I just wish phones would stay at that kind of size. I'm getting used to it slowly but hopefully there will be more emphasis in returning phones to comfortably pocketable sizes again.

I grabbed the 7 pro as I was getting the watch anyway, and with how the promotional discounts on that were, it only ended up £50 more to upgrade. The P7P is definitely too big for me, I'll adjust but certainly the P7 is closer to my "ideal", I do also prefer the matte bar over the gloss. It's worth it for the telephoto & macro tho, already finding use for both and very happy with the results. Have to say I'm not wowed by the battery though. Coming from a P3a and it doesn't seem all that much better? Maybe my expectations are too high. I do not like the gesture ui though, pulling up multitasking is very fiddly and inconsistent, and swiping back is a bit of a stretch too. I think I'd rather have the soft buttons back.

I agree that matte overall looks better than the "jeweled" look, but I also like the polished Pro look. As far as fingerprints, etc., a clear case takes care of that. I don't get the harping on that 🤷‍♂

I did the same thing with 5g on my P6! Now I can actually use the P7P with 5G and it’s great. I got the P6 because of the value last year but I do a lot of outdoor stuff and sorely missed the telephoto, that and the 4K FFC. Going from a P6 to a P7P is a no brainer, there is enough of a difference now to justify it.

I moved from a pixel 4a 5g to the 7 pro. So far I like everything about the phone, it's an upgrade in nearly every way. NEARLY, except for the gorilla glass... I don't know exactly what the upgrade is supposed to be with the victus glass, but scratch resistance was not it. I never used a screen protector with my pixel 3 or the 4a 5g, but my 7 pro already has more scratches than either of the prior phones. If you order a 7/7 pro, absolutely order a screen protector at the same time.

As a follow up, the use of a glass screen protector significantly hampers the screen sensitivity, particularly at the edges. I'm going to switch to a film protective screen and see how that works. I'm concerned that the film may not work well with my UAG case.

Completely agree with the upgrade comment from the 6 to the 7. I had frequent GPS and cell signal issues with my 6 Pro. My wife's Pixel 5 didn't have these problems. My 3XL didn't have these problems. I bought the 7 Pro and it's been working great so far. I'm not someone who upgrades every iteration (I went from 3XL to 6Pro)...but, the issues I was having with the 6Pro were not something I wanted to live with for another year or two.

Have had a P6Pro since launch day in the US. No issues. No modem problems. No "5G destroying my battery" issues. No finger print sensor being too slow, not working, etc. No buggy UI. Not once has it "crashed" or shown signs of problems. It just works and works real well. It's still smooth, doesn't feel slowed down. My only issue (which I thought I would get used to it) is the overall size. It's more problematic for most daily use like email, text, quick lookup, general tasks.... but it is perfect for media, editing photos/video. But since the former takes up more of the day, it's something to consider. I wish they could cram all those cameras and screen refresh hardware into a much smaller form factor :) that would sweet.

I picked up a P7 because I wanted a smaller phone. I'm sure it's a great phone but I can't get past how bad the display on it was. Viewing angles were awful, colors were super washed out and it was way too warm for me. Not to mention in the settings there were only two options. Natural and adaptive and they were both bad. Compared to my OnePlus 8T it was just not comparable. I was really excited for this phone but I'm gonna return it and keep the 8T. Maybe the 7 pro fixes the display but I did want a smaller phone.

I've made a huge change from the Sony Xperia 5iii to the 7 pro + Pixel Watch. The 7 pro is not as big as I thought it would be. As soon as I put a case on the 7pro, the curved screen is not an issue for me. I'm a camera guy and blown away at the detail you get from even the 30x cropped telephoto. My only issue at the moment is that any audio seems to be right heavy on landscape. The Sony gave me perfect stereo from both sides when watching in landscape, the 7 pro is about 70% louder on the right (bottom by charging port) and no options to fine tune.

The battery on the Pixel 7 is seriously incredible as mentioned in this video. I had a similar experience, forgot to charge my phone over night and rushed off to catch a train with only 50% battery without my charger. I use my phone for payment so was worried about running out during the day, however I got home that evening with battery to spare. I used it for music, calls, messages etc like normal. No power save mode. I get through 2 days quite confidently now. Maybe that's also the same for iPhone and Samsung but I can't compare as it has been 3 years since I switched from IPhone to Pixel.

My Galaxy Note 4, launched back in 2014, had a QHD screen. I haven't bought a phone with a lesser resolution since then. This is the only reason why a Pixel 7 wouldn't work for me as a replacement for my Pixel 4XL. I could care less about the extra camera on the Pixel 7 Pro, but the QHD (or more) screen resolution is a must have for me.

Just picked up the Pixel 7 a couple days ago. I had the OnePlus 6t since 2018 and I was researching between the iPhone 14+, S22+, and Pixel 7 Pro. I've been using Android since 2014 and didn't want to go back to iOS. After doing research, I was leaning with the Pixel 7 Pro until I saw a number of reviews of people recommending the 7. Even still, I was leaning towards the 7 Pro but decided to reach out to a local T-Mobile store to get a price comparison between the two. T-Mobile had a killer deal on the 7 which was the deciding factor for me as it lowered the cost from $599 to $99. I'm glad I did it because compared to my 6t, the 7 is still a major upgrade and I'm happy with the the features. This is my first Pixel phone and I'm really enjoying the stock Android. Also, I like matte anything over glossy as glossy shows more fingerprints, scratches, etc.

I do recommend switching it you are looking for good battery life, talk to text, picture taking and many more good things. The only bad thing for me is that I lose connection when I'm at work but it could be fixed with an update. From iPhone to android no regrets.

Google definitely needs to drop the curved screens. If Google makes an ultravariant of their pixel phones from here on out, depending on how things go in a few years, I may get a pixel ultra instead of going back to a Galaxy ultra phone. But Google needs to iron out the phone's ability to keep cool and not overheat as my Samsung phones always were able to handle the heat far better than any pixel without overheating.

I have been using Pixel 4 for the last 2.5 years. I love the 5.7" screen size with no notch and 2x optical zoom. Unfortunately, I can´t buy a good new case in my country, the battery could last longer, the screen could be a bit brighter and 64Gb internal storage is a pain. I am looking for a new phone, Pixel 7 looks to be a better choice for me, on the other hand, I would miss that optical zoom. The size, the price, and the glossy back are dealbreakers for 7 Pro.
