That was insane, I agree! He was looking in his rear-view mirror and I was a bit curious to see if he was having to brake ahead of the corner in order to let the jet fly past before taking a left and crossing paths. It would have been an expensive episode to make :).

Every time I see this, it's so amazing. I can't imagine how much of a logistical nightmare it was to set all this up, from approving it, to the cost for maintenance before and after just to do a little demo.

its a daily occurrence for the maintenance crew, drop in the bucket Ive actually done a very similar thing, Im avionics for the U-2S and the landing gear is so shit that a pilot literally has to chase the jet when it lands with a supercharged dodge and radios the flying pilot to tell them how far off the ground they are. Its called a chase car. But we're only going about 140 mph

@Anant Sinha He forgot to add that the U2-S only has two wheels, one in the front and one in the back, it's also meant for VERY high altitude operations, so it works less efficiently at lower

Dzie Kuje a) It's really not that noteworthy that a fighter pilot would be able to plan three turns, and then do those three turns b) How can you not tell that the sequence is cut together from a bunch of different footage? The jet overtakes the car 3 times FFS.

@Jamvan001 His prediction for the finish was exactly correct though as well. And the jet keeps falling behind because its turns are so big that the car has time to catch up, then it overtakes on the straights. 3 straights, three overtakes, seems right to me.

Imagine if the pilot is doing a strike/bombing mission. The pilot needs to quick and precisely calculate at what speed and at what height and at what time he needs to drop the bomb... All of that is to make sure it strikes exactly at target dude's home and not his neighbors here and there.

@GenderlessKZhomeFanPerson Hey i'm also a DCS fan. What i really meant was that the eurofighter would beat the f-35 in a race like this cause' it has a higher TWR and i guess it would also beat it in BFM. It might have a chance BVR cause' of the meteor missile but i think the f-35 can also take it

What is actually impressive in this video is that the calculations of the pilot was so acurate that he actually told tha position of the car when he will cross the line first and we actually can estimate the position by the time gap of the car crossing the finishing line 🥵🔥🔥

the f-35 is a stealth fighter, not an interceptor built for speed its basically a flying missile truck thats invisible with good manueverability and compatability capabilities, and it wasnt actually close but it was 3 different cuts, just edited for suspense

The race is actually fairly legit too! The f35 obviously can’t do the course the same way but it doesn’t go off course just to let the speedtail win, it has its own fairly similar route. It’s cool that they didn’t throw the race.

Do you really think, the military goes into a "fight" without gathering intelligence about their enemy? I am sure that they knew the exact specs of the car such as straight line speed, cornering speed, drag coeficient and so on. They calculated that race in advance then briefed the pilot.

@John Bolt its full carbon fiber (if i remember correctly) but mostly its so expensive because its exclusively made for your head and allows you to see straight trough the aircraft by cameras outside the plane and with nightvision etc. It also shows all the information you need inside the helmet.

I have met an American who designed the F35B Lightning and I love the capabilities of the jet. The minute you hear the alarm going off in the beginning, I got goosebumps when I saw the jet. Plus the pilot was spot on about his calculations of the race.

Scale wise, I’d say the pilot was pretty dead on about the race results.

Those guys are as good as race engineers. The test pilots especially - they're seriously trained, both flying and engineering. If they are asked to climb to 20056 ft, they will place the jet exactly at 20056 feet, at the target speed. Those airshows you see are performed by the very best pilots. They are as skilled with their planes as F1 drivers keeping the car inches off the walls are with their cars

I’m sure that was probably filmed after the race too or at least after they tried this several times and tried to figure out which route would make the race the closest. It’s tv, everything is planned out, that’s why the pilot said the 3rd turn was too tight even though it was just as tight as the 1st turn.

James Edward It might of been filmed after but I doubt they ran it a few times, that would be expensive, especially for the jet. They have mathematicians who can calculate with the techinicians/engineers of Mclaren and the jet to find out how they can make it close

That thumbnail is beautiful. Notmally you want to avoid tangents with objects but the way the jet looks like part of it’s bodywork is part of the car. Chef’s kiss.

@Ambition-pk not to disrespect you ... look at your comment.1300hp AWD in a car. notice the only times the car had the lead when the plane had to turn almost every other time that turning the car was behind... do your math that 1300hp how many mph is the car limited too?ps the F36 is limited to Mach 1.6

I was in the Navy. Most pilots are confident, but not cocky. And it's always nice to see one own someone who thinks they're being cocky. lol. I miss seeing the blue Angels practice every week. 😥

True Story: I was once passed by a 911rs on the autobahn while cruising at 160mph. The 911 flashed us, we move aside, and the 911 catapulted past us just like this F35! We cheered at the flame from its exhaust, which had to have been about 7ft long. True story. Loved this video, brought back some great memories.

0:47 gets too close 2:10 guy speaks another language 4:20 *noice* thinks the f35 looks like an engine with a person strapped to the front of it 4:39 exactly when the race starts 5:00 sees the jet lift off the ground 6:00 he thinks the car will win 6:18 *spoiler* Car gets destroyed 6:30 the jet flyer goes flying up into the sky *this is me 6 hours later btw I literally cannot stop watching this*
