As a fellow lock enthusiast, I love seeing old crusty locks being restored back into a fully functional lock after countless years sitting around gathering rust and corrosion. Another fine rextored video mate :)

Imagine it being the 19th century, a cool night in an industrial town. The shops have all closed and the factory staff are walking home, the foreman steps out through the wooden and iron doors onto the cobbled Street and locks the door to the factory behind him using this exact lock as the steam escapes with his breath and the last creeking and knocking sounds happen as the lock is set in place.

I'm glad to see you did not try to make it look brand new by grinding and sanding all the finishes perfectly smooth. I like the way this looks with the pitting sans the rust. Beautiful restoration. Now you just need a strong box to match.

When I look at this, I want to try it. But that is only because you make it look easy. The knowledge that gives you the confidence to do that which is both obvious and impossible is empowering.

Yeah, i wouldn't doubt that this padlock once locked up an old textile mill on a river, or a local shop, office, or tavern on a cobblestone street. Perhaps the lock to a large chest that contained valuables. Or maybe just a lock on a barn. This guy has a fantastic gift for restoring history, OUR history, and that is marvellous. 👍

Brilliant ! notice how the locking direction is reverse to the modern day locks. Also great that rust actually forms a protective crust on the old lock device.

I just got my own You Tube Channel launched about two weeks ago. Its hard work . i do Marine repair for a living I freaking love your video it literly drew me in especially when you started cutting the rivets and tearing apart I kept thinking before that dude needs to cut the rivets and get it open! Beautiful restoration mister well done

Now that is a nice restoration. You should use the bluing solution in places where you have hammered, like pins and others. Also do not put the brush into bluing solution, pour it into small container and use from there, recycle what remains. I'd say 95% perfect restoration, where remaining 5% are not even realistic to achieve.
